'Sup

Just posting some stuff..
Been pretty busy/preoccupied/lazy/tired to update and add stuff.

Some gigs here and there.. Went on a pretty rad ska cruise the other week, Los Caps did a Sublime tribute set which was madsickk.
Went to a metal gig and felt hell out of place with the same/similar crowd I used to hang out with. Maybe it's Sydneys metal scene or just metal in general that doesn't appeal to me anymore... but I still love my legit thrash bands..

speaking of, trying to organise some more gigs but my biggest hurdle at the moment is getting a fucking venue. Bookers don't reply to me and I haven't established those networked contacts and what not so I don't have to go through this slow process bullshit.
I've been looking into warehouse and unlicensed venues and as cool as they may seem, don't really accomodate what I'm after in terms of a venue.
Thinking I'll also branch out and put on a ska/punk gig for the bands I've not yet seen but want to see. I hardly know anyone in the Sydney ska world though.. Gotta find some pals or something.

Finally got to have another jam with Disintegrator and wrote another song. It's longer and started as a Bob marley cover which went from jammin' to thrashin' to not even sounding remotely like ol' bob but we'll experiment with it. The songs too simple for my liking at the moment. I need to rework and add some riffs to it but it's sounding pretty cross exam/ dayglos which I guess is a cool mix. Writing whilst jamming with these days is the easiest it's been. With Tyrannik and other bands it was such a hassle to write stuff together but with this band I'm finding it alot easier.

I have tickets to Kyuss in May. super duper excited for this one.

Apart from that, shit's good. Almost summer but we've got a week of rain. O'briens are in Aus soon.. can't believe it's my birthday in a few weeks.
I'll leave it at that for now and will post again soon. or something.

kthx

Teratornis @ the Lewisham

Friday night saw the last Tornis gig of the year. After our traditional Maddogg tradition of longies and amazing charcoal grilled portuguese chicken in the alleyway, we went in for tornis (late as usual, not sure if we've ever made it on time when they play at the lewisham)

Anyway they were tight az hell and sounded rather solid.
They're recording their EP in a couple of weeks and I'm currently in the process of trying to book them an EP launch gig, but bookers and venues are slack.

Excuse the shit sound quality.

A long weekend in ol' Melbourne town.

So Leesy and I were going to go to Melbourne on the long weekend, but exodus got in the way so I took the following monday off and we booked a little sydney escape.

Took the early shift on friday so I could knock off early and get out flight at 7ish. Our hotel bookings were better this time round, better location and cheaper. We were staying near St Kilda in Albert park, 10mins tram ride to the city.
Got there friday evening, the dude at the check in desk asked me "where abouts in sydney are you from?" "out near campbelltown" "oh.. do you know Jamie potter?" "yeah!" and it turns out this dude was in his old Ska band, Hornography. Graveyard Girlfriend, great song.

So anyway, we check in and head out to find some dinner. Head on down to St Kilda, get some burgers which weren't too friendly on our stomachs. Mick came along and we went to the Espy, one of melbs better known venues. I've seen heaps of mad bands advertised to play there in the past. Though on this friday night it was full of hipsters and just general lame people, shit bar staff and a drunk sheila that walked into a window next to us. Hilarious.

Come Saturday, we went out shopping around Flinders. Bought myself a Sacred Reich backpatch for my jacket, Then we went on a search to find a medical center which we eventually found in St Kilda. following that was some fish and chips on the beach and a nice stroll down the pier. The place looked like Venice beach so much. The plam trees, the buildings, the beach, the path along the beach with everyone skating and the pier of course.

After hanging out in our room for a bit, we made our way out to town for some dinner and beverages. I was trying to find Degraves, a nice little street off Flinders which has some nice resturants. By the time we found the bloody place, everything was shut. I was pretty pissed off, I hate getting losst in melbourne, especially when time isn't on your side so we had to settle for KFC, then went for a wander through some alleyways. Found a real good alleyway with some amazing graffiti and artwork. Met a dude that looked like Mike Muir circa 1996 who was some dude in the street art scene and gave tours around Melbourne exhibiting the raddest street art and graffiti. Following that we watched some dudes getting stuck into each other accross the road. Took a while for the cops to rock up and then onto Cherry Bar we went. Cider and some cover band made for a nice night getting my drink on with my bubs. And that was Satdee...

Sunday we checked out, went to our new swish hotel , The Grand Hotel down on flinders/spencer st. Nice classy old building however we some how fucked up the booking, having our check in date as the following Sunday. They sorted us out but by the time we had checked in, we had missed the street art tour. So we went to the Tim burton Exhibition instead. There was a massive line so I booked the tickets online on my phone so we could skip the que and grabbed some bier in the meantime. The exhibition was ok.. lots of cool pictures and artworks from throughout tims career.. the batman stuff was pretty sickk but would have liked to have seen more. Heaps of his movies I haven't seen either so I wasn't too fussed. Mick came along too.

Went back to our pimp hotel, hung out on the balcony naked drinking cider watching the sunset. That was a heaps nice way to get ready for a night out, took my lovely lady to dinner in Lygon street then hit up Josh's crib around the corner. Nathan had come down for a night for the hell of it, so we all went out to the casino. I learnt to play Blackjack at the tables and lost all my money before winning it all back. Came out $3 down. But it was fun!

Then it was our final day so we did more last minute shopping. Checked out Missing link, bought some Aussie music. a 7" and CD ep of Useless Children. Has one of the dudes from Cut Sick in it with this sheila on drums screaming her lungs out. Sounds fuckin' great. Been listening to it heaps. also got a Battletruk Cd, a pretty cool hardcore/crossover band from Perth. I also bought a Splatterheads CD that just came out, though its all bsides and live recordings. Wouldnt mind listening to a studio album to get into. They're a band from the Massappeal/Hellmenn scene which I'm still getting into and checking out and I'm really liking it.
We then hit up Minotuar which Leesy loved, a cool pop culture comic book store. Leesy and I bought Beavis and butthead bobbleheads which I've been looking for for ages now so they're standing proudly on my desk. We had Dondons for the 2nd time, the shits incredible. My favourite place to eat in Melbourne. Amazing japanese curry thats served in seconds and is cheap and quiet filling.. man my writing is halfarsed today but I'm at work and just wanna get it posted else I'll never get around to it... ok back to Melbourne.

We checked out Brunswick street too, I've heard good things about the shops there though I was a bit let down. Not much to appeal to a TSMM like myself but Leesy got to check out some half decent clothing establishments. After Brunswick st we headed back to the city, got our gear and made our way to the airport :(

Was a solid weekend.. late nights and sort of early wakeups meant we got heaps done, and our location made it easier to do things. I'll pot some photos up here later too.
Thanks for a radikool weekend babe :3

Well HEI there. It's been a while. Been hella busy and/or tired.

A bunch of stuff has happened since my last entry.. lets start with Exodus!

Started the day jamming with my new band. Wrote half a self titled/theme song and a 35 second badboy that will kick you in the nuts. I got my drink on and was feeling pretty nice and cider-y. Dropped my shit off at the office and headed back into town to meet up with everyone else.

Kept drinking til it was time to head to the manning bar. I was in an odd mood. Pissed off, bit
upset and feeling down.. no idea why but I was in a drunken destructive state. Had a very fun walk through sydney uni park, diving in bushes, pulling my pants down with lee (no homo) and rolling around on the floor.
Missed the support bands becuase they were shit.
Exodus came on, this is where my memory gets pretty hazy. the drunken state and adrenaline was making me not pay attention to anything except thrashing about.

Rob douche wasn't gr8, Gary wasn't using his awesome Bernie Rico guitars I was once in love with. The sound wasn't great but it had the energy. I remember smashing up the pit during bonded and toxic waltz. I crowd surfed and almost jumped on the stage and was going to dive off, but didn't have the balance to jump on the stage and dodge security.
Some dude headbutt or hit me in the face and cut my eyebrow so I had blood dripping down my face which was heaps cool. It didn't hurt at the time. Gary was apparently grinning everytime someone got smashed or stage dived, he was getting a kick out of us have "good friendly violent fun".

Was almost ready to die after the gig, had no energy and felt shit, but i did more bush diving (not to be confused with muff diving) and we ended up outside some uni lodge place with some indian dudes inside, and we got out dixx out against the window.. details aren't clear on that but it was funny. Then had a shitty time making our way home, and that was my exodus experience. I'd put more photos but blogspot is real shit with adding photos to posts.

Get a cider up ya!

At work we have a suggestion box, you drop notes in with suggestions for work.

I put one in for 5 seeds.

Come all staff meeting time, reading them out, fuckin' herbs whinge out"eeewww" and half laughs.

Goddamn cruiser drinking wussbags.

No 5 seeds this week. D:

On a side note, It's hard to enjoy Friday beers when I have to piss when I get on the train and have to hold it in for an hour.

Another bloody monday and a weekend that flew by all too quick.
It was a good'un though!

Saturday was pretty rad, nice slow wakeup with Leesy, Went to newtown and spent the afternoon wandering around, bought some $2 Cds at Repressed and a sex board game, which after a quick attempt isn't all that great. It's alot more fun to just get into it rather than ask/answer silly questions, maybe we'll come back to it.
Just nice afternoon hanging with my bub then we headed home, I got ready and went to the city for OVERKILL.

I can't write a review or recount a whole lot though haha I was having too much fun.
All the TSMM were out and about, Haven't seen those dudes in a while.. All the cool bands (tornis, Hellbringer, rampage, the maddoggz etc) hanging out in they alleyway wearing our patch jackets drinking goon and just being thrashkuntz.

Missed Mortal Sin becuase we wanted to drink longer, but Overkill was rad. I don't kreally know any songs but I still had a blast jumping around, thrashing like maniax.
But it was a shitload of fun!
Then we migrated to Stratton Bar afterwards for some bday drinks for Matt. I didn't stay long I don't think.. Was feeling pretty done by this point, then had a shitty time trying to get home after just missing the last train home but it was all sorted in the end.

Surprised I didn't wake up with hangover (I partially did but it passed), no bruises and sore bodyparts which allowed me to not spend my Sunday dying. Instead Leesy came round, we washed her car together, hit up the shops to get some ingredients for Satay stirfry noodles and came home to cook up a feast and watched Harry Brown. That was a pretty cool movie. Quiet, slow and grim, but I love old man vigilantes fucking up scum. Better than Gran Torino, and gave a pretty fucked up insight into some of Englands shitholes with drugs, violence and crackdens. Leesy didn't like it though :P

And now it's back to monday with a weeks worth of work, but I'll manage with some cool shit on the horizon to look forward to.
Next week - Exodus! :D

p.s this weather is fuckin' gr8.
Summers on it's way! While I'm at work Lee is at the beach. Damn you Leedogg.

Eat a dick, Cityrail

Man I'm getting the shits with Cityrail.
For a while there their service was good, trains came on time and there were not many delays.

Lately though...
The other day my train came 2 minutes early. I missed it, and was late for work.
Sometimes they'll cancel the my usual train home too for no given reason.

But today, my 5.48am train was delayed indefinitely. The screen was saying it was 8 minutes away... 12 minutes...23 minutes...
They couldn't give us a time of when the next fucking train was coming so I got the Granville train and was 15 minutes late.

I have no problems getting myself to work on time, but it's cityrail that causes me to be late and fucks me around, thus causing me to fail my KPI for attendance and not getting my monthly/qtrly bonus.
I think I'm just going to give up trying to get that bonus. I tried really hard last month and somehow, sometime, I was late on 3 occasions.

Why bother if cityrail is just going to fuck it up for me and spoil my chances.

A shitty start to Friday, and I'm tired as hell.
back to sleeping at my desk.

Office Politics - Real Power vs V

The real powers were the first in the race to reach the top of a tower. ~86 of those badboys stacked.

The V's on the other hand, who have a bigger team of V drinkers didn't complete the tower first but there's about 95+ there now.

An impressive feat. :D

We'll play so fast, our necks will break.

Having just bailed on Marko and his thrash band (and a lineup as reliable as god answering your prayers)

I'm finally about to start my own thing. Well, somewhat my own thing. My musical direction I guess, with Leedogg by my side. It was on our minds for a year or two and never got our arses organised so nothing came from it except a jam or two with just us, but we've got Adam from U.S.V on vokillz, he's got the experience and attitude of a speed metal maniac punk and he'll be bringing us a bassist and just like that, we've got us a line up.

Before Adam came along, my band was going for Gutterdeath as the name. Adam has come up with Disintegrator. We'll decide on something once we get into the groove of things.

What sort of sweet tunes will we be busting out?
Not sure yet, I've written some rough demos and heaps of ideas. In my mind I imagine the songs to be fast az hell, thrash and hardcore inspired. Shit to get rowdy to pretty much.
I can't really speak for the others, but my riffage in this case is mostly influenced by Massappeal, Cut Sick, Excel, ST, Cryptic Slaughter etc etc.

Fast fast fast is the keyword here. I'm also trying to capture the essence of the Summer of MaddoggZ, alot like ST, Excel and a bunch of 80s LA punk bands have done, intentionally or not, their music makes me want to skate to a beach and kick it in my sweet shorts.
That sort of scene is something I want to try and replicate while we're at it. If there aren't dudes and sheilaz jumping around and going nuts with us when we play, I'll be quite the dissapointed little thrasher. Playing in the crowd is something I want to do to.

Adam gave me a bunch of music which are his influences, most of it sucks (lol) but I've gotten into some sweet stuff, namely Dayglo Abortions.

Adams written some lyrics which are sounding pretty sickk. Keeping in tune with "If you're serious you lose", the songs won't be written for serious topics.
Partying, having fun, smashing cones of radioactive weed and turning into zombies and that sorta shit. I can't really write lyrics without sounding like Dr Seuss but I may give it ago, I have some old scrappy bits of paper with ideas I've written down over the years.

Using my Industry skillz and knowledge, putting on gigs should be easy, I want to do it all DIY, hand draw my flyers like I have in the past - time and creativity permitting.
Adam knows a bunch of dudes in Melb/Syd/Bris from touring with U.S.V so his contacts will help out for sure.

Shannon, the bassist from Inebriator (melb) is also starting a crossover band and we're keen to do a split EP once we've got some shit recorded, though thats a few steps ahead. At least it's an achievable goal to aim for in the short term , 4 - 6months.

I'm pretty fuckin excited for this. At last I've got interested musicians, a passion, a car and money for getting to rehearsals and shit, though I think I'll be relying on public transport a fair bit so I can get my 5 seeds on. We should be having our first jam in a week or two and seeing what we come up with.

Anyway my long as shit shift is coming to an end, I'm outta here to go write some riffz.

fuck yaz all!!

A fresh start

Hello blog world.
It's 7.32am on a monday morning and I'm sitting here in the office dreading another week of work.

But I'm wanting to be more productive with my downtime(And I've had too much coffee to be able to sleep at my desk), So here is a blog.
Just gonna keep it real, post ideas and thoughts and shit.
This would mostly just be for my own future reference when my memory has gone to shit. I've had many great tales, but not documented them as I figured I'd just remember the details, but that's never the case so here is my effort.

Metallica @ Acer 18th Sept.

The band that got me into metal many moons ago, the band that inspired the way I look and dress like I do now, the band that lead me to picking up my first guitar and the band that initially changed my life for the greater good.
It's been a couple of years since I've voluntarily listened to Metallica. I used to play their albums on a daily basis on repeat. Back in High school, I was obsessed.

I eventually opened my eyes to other lesser known music and evolved as a metalhead to the point where Metallica albums were becoming a bit repetitive and couldn't hold my attention as well as other lesser known bands and sub genres as I started listening to less mainstream, more talented bands (Not saying Metallica weren't talented)
But In saying that, I was pretty excited to see them and it was a pretty solid gig.

When tickets went on sale I asked Squidy to grab me a presale ticket when he got his. He bought Gold standing for himself and his lady, but for whatever reason he got me a single gold seating ticket. Like fuck I was going to sit/stand by myself when I knew my pals and lovely lady would be down in the pit. But at the last minute Squidy helped me acquire a decent ticket for the first show and away I went.

Some thoughts, recollections and a couple of photos I took.

- Great stage, the band members were walking around the stage in the middle so I could cop a half decent view of each of them. Great light show and cool pyrotechnics

- Pathetic crowd. These days metallica appeal to pretty much everyone, including Dbags covered in trendy shirts and tribal tats, and just general lame cunts. Noone was moving in the crowd. The majority stood there with their arms crossed. Everyone was sitting (apart from marko and Lee who received and gave out some shit for standing, ha!) But yes, no movement, until fuckin' enter sandman came on, then everyone got into it, Apart from myself. Then it went dead again once
they played their older stuff. Leesy and I had a rad time headbanging and air guitaring throughout the set, my neck got a solid workout. Some dumbslut im heels was giving Leesy some trouble by grabbing her hair as she was headbanging and telling her to stop. Lee called a woman a mangy cunt and had biers thrown him for standing up. At a Metallica concert....

Fer fucks sake, we were in the mosh section of a goddamn Metallica concert. I was sorta hoping someone would tell me off as I just wanted to give those boring lame cunts a peice of my mind. If you don't want to move, just buy a seating ticket, thus freeing up mosh tickets for Lee and Marko to come have a good time.

- Good choice of songs for the most part. Bunch of rad oldies I didn't expect - Ride the lightning, Fight fire with fiyah, hit the lights. The Death Magnetic songs were boring az hell.

- Overall the gig was pretty mad, there was no atmosphere or great vibes generated by the crowd like Maiden had going, but I'm glad I went and can now cross them off my list of things to do before I die.

Next weekend, Overkill :D
Thrashing speed metal maniaxx dunununun
